Infectious Bursal Disease

How the Gumboro Disease Control improve the performance

The immune-complex vaccines, such as Transmune, are prepared from live attenuated IBDV strains of the intermediate plus type, mixed in with specific anti-IBDV serum to regulate the safety and release of the vaccine once the MDA levels of the bird are reduced.

These vaccines have the ability to fully colonize the bursa, protect against all field IBD viruses, and overcome MDA, some of the key advantages of the immune-complex vaccines.

The vaccine takes occurs when the MDA level decreases to a point that allows the vaccine virus to be released and to reach the bursa of Fabricius. From this moment, the vaccine strain will replicate in the bursa of Fabricius, and the chicken will be immunized against any type of IBD virus (Active Immunity).

The control of Gumboro Disease improves the flock health with a positive effect on the field and slaughterhouse performance

This way, can control the Gumboro disease, whether clinical or subclinical, and ensure the ‘protection’ of the chickens against clinical signs following infection, but also ensure the ‘prevention’ of the disease by decreasing the population of Gumboro virus shed and by significantly reducing the risk of emergence of a variant virus.

Protected

Several experiences around the world, covering all the continents, proved that the Transmune concept to block the bursa with the vaccine strain works to control the disease.

Some of the benefits come from the field and some of them from the slaughterhouse. But the most important is that the broiler flock will be better protected, and able to keep healthy. And once the flock is healthy, it is able to perform good results.

See one example of monitoring done in Latin America (Bianchet, L. et al., 2017) showing the improvement in several performance parameters (feed conversion, mortality at 45 days, daily body weight gain, and performance index) of a broiler production operation.

See below some examples of the improvement in broilers flocks (in breast and carcass yield, condemnation, and partial condemnation) vaccinated with Transmune in the slaughterhouse results:

Another benefit that can be observed as well, is the improvement of the uniformity of the weight in the flocks.

As the control of the Gumboro disease is done, all the broilers can perform better, achieving the potential according to the genetic, and nutritional strategy.

As result, for the slaughter process with a more uniform flock, the slaughter line will run in a more uniform way as well, with the possibility of increasing the line speed.
